NWA seems to be the hot topic. It's funny though in the Christian Hip Hop community I am seeing a lot of backlash and rejection of "Straight Outta Compton". I got to keep it real though. Thats what I grew up on. These artists are some of the first that did have an influence on me, not to go F the police or do something I wouldn't normally do, but to fall in love with the beat and flow of rap music. I will never forget the first rap tape I ever got. My brother, who has not ever really been huge into rap music for some reason gave me a Too Short album "Short Dog's In The House". It was the beats for me, I had never heard beats like that. Back to NWA though. Yeah they lived crazy lives, however they were born into crazy lives and to them this was no doubt a blessing and way out. I can't say I wouldn't have been down for that ride, because I would have have. One thing I have learned is you just can't say what you would do in someone else's shoe's, however you can trust GOD! When topic's like these come up people tend to overlook the fact that God has a plan for everything and no one sneaks to power. Authority is given by our father and we need to remember that. This ministry "Christian Hip Hop Hits Just as Hard" is only here because a younger Matthew was influenced by rap music and God. God has a plan and we need to trust him. I am not saying to support negative messages, however don't dismiss where you came from and how the past is part of your future.
